Foreigners- charming, locals- disappointing?
Friday, August 29, 2008

Aren't the Japanese just utterly cute and polite?
They seem to bow and nod their heads with respect all the time
and all day long..
To us they are not only one of the most polite creatures on earth
but too are a country that breds many of the top fashionistas and geniuses.
Today as i were waiting for my lift during my lunchtime,
I got acquainted with this sweet and Japanese man who should be in his mid-forties.
He has really got this "Japanese- aura" about him,
with the suit, manner, complexion, roundish- specs and all.
When the lift arrives, though he was very much nearer to the lift,
while i was quite far away at the other corner,
he insisted that i went in the lift before him.
He sort of bowed and used his opened palm to "usher" me in so i'll enter first.
Isn't he just charming??
LOL yeah. i was pretty entranced by his utterly- flawless manner.
Usually you cannot expect much from Singaporean men.
They most they would do when, similarly you are also near to the lift that arrives (get the picture?) is that they would enter first (if they manage) and help to keep the door opened for you.

Very often do i see a local (male) stranger doing the latter to the other person (female).
I guess perhaps,
changes in the mindsets of the society is needed for a better local definition of gentlemen.
maybe, we should try learning from the Japanese or even Koreans huh.

The 5 year old Yoo Ye Eun little prodigy from Korea is absolutely amazing. Though born blind and started piano at the terribly young age of 3,
she is able to play a new song on the piano just after listening the same song once.
Dubbed the New Mozart, she too has performed together with Britain's Got Talent Connie Talbot.

I'm so glad that God do treat us well.
Though Ye Eun is blind from birth,
she is given a gift so amazingly beautiful and extraordinary..

PS I was unable to upload a video of her performance due to copyright claim by the Korea SBS broadcasting company.
But i do have a picture here.

Uh-umm.. Am i in Singapore?
Tuesday, August 19, 2008

I went to this place in Sg called the PSB Corp Science Park Building last week to settle some of my work permit issues and i can't believe that i'm actually in Singapore!
I know i'm being a little extremist here..
i thought i should comment a little..
As its where the expats are most likely to come.. the place could have been better done up.

The building was already pretty old in its decor and felt sort of shabby and seemed unattended for quite some time..
I wanted to snap a picture of its seemingly-century old lift but was unable to do so.
I've seen the same kind of lift buttons when i was in pre-sch and in living in my old condo in Msia..
I can't forget those hard- to- pressed, yellowed- once- white lift buttons..
Since, they've upgraded to slightly better lifts.
But they are back. In Singapore.

The both time i was in the lift, there was somebody- first a brow- furrowed old lady cleaner and second a pinkish China man.
It would be weird at me snapping at something that's so norm.
So no snaps of the antique lift.
Yes. The haunty- looking bathroom. I was all alone inside. Thought i should snap a pict.
Nope. I DID NOT hope to catch anything else. (above pict)
Next, the lobby. Very deserted and cold. Pretty old cushion seats and it makes me think of the re- broadcasted 90's serial dramas on Sg Mediacorp Channel 8. (see picts above and below..)

Of course, there was also nicer picts that can be taken..

The exterior of the building. Very posh, hi- tech and science lab-by. (above)

The best part of the building.. The outdoor huts! It was quite good. Pretty nice and calming.
(see above and below picts)

What an interesting acquaintance!
Monday, August 18, 2008

Hmm..

There's still time for me to write a little before the clock ticks 9am!

Office officially starts at 9!

Though i will be the one only around till about 10 in the morning..

still rules are to be adhered to and principles to be uphold!

so i won't try to skive once the clock strucks 9am!

haha anyway..

something happened to me this morning which i thought was both kind of cute and hilarious!

I should condemn him as a STALKER but i just don't have the heart too..

I saw him quite frequently at the customs to and back work and as he wasn't exactly A good-looking.

So i didn't much as more than a glance to him as the other commuters who i see usually too but whom i were never acquainted with..

He was also never of the same route as my journey to my exact workplace in Singapore..

However apparently this morning's journey was fresh and first for him!

haha

you'll never guess what happened..

He followed me on MY bus, went on MY journey and to MY workplace!

How'd i knew?

As soon as we got down the bus, he approached me and said very straightly in Chinese,

"Miss, i followed you onto the bus you know. Can you show me the way to the nearest MRT station?"

Apparently he followed me blindly and little did he know he would arrive in such an unfamiliar place!

LOL

So as expected, i was momentarily startled.

I stood there staring at him incredulously, pointed the way to him and he bolted off.

Well, don't worry.. i'm definite he's sane.. haha

Now i think i would do more than i glance at him from today onwards

and watch my back frequently..

No, not because i fallen for him..

But just to see what he'll be up to the next time!

HI THERE! I'm back!
Sunday, August 17, 2008

I know...
Its been so long since i blogged!
Been sooo busy and life's been hectic these 2 weeks!
Finally, found some time to post something here!

Well...
just to keep my life updated in here..
THREE days after the BIG Beijing Olympic Opening Ceremony 2008 i celebrated my birthday!
ie on the 11th of Aug..
I turned EIGHTEEN that day!
For that i celebrated 2 whole days with my family!
But..
Felt a little sad because it signifies the day when i'll start to AGE!
As what some brilliant people of science say.. LOL
Felt sad too because it also invisibly and invariably marks the day i have to really start GROWING UP..
these means altering quite a number of things about me!
haha
But looking away from the dimmer side of life!
Turning EIGHTEEN means i can do so much more things!
Freedom.. Credit cards.. Legal standings.. Freedom of choices.. etc..
at least life sounds pretty exciting still!
On every August 11 since i was 6..
(and some other days too)
Mother and I would relive the same old story of how and why she gave birth to me
on 11th of Aug..

The historically tale of 18 years goes like that..
Due to her frail health..
She had to had me through the Caesarian way..
Doctor gave her choices between having me
either on the 9th of Aug or the 11th..
and Mother chose 11th..
For the other days weren't available for Mother's doc-in-charge
weren't free
The reason for Mother's choice was that she liked the number '1'
and she dont want me celebrating my birthday together with that of Singapore's Nat Day..
Its not that she hated S'pore or anything like that..
Its just that she thought if it clashes..
My big day may be made less significant or faded out..
Anyway..
whichever day i'll be born i'll still be me..
So Mother...
Thanks so much for having me into the world and into your warm embrace and affection!
Oops! Before i forget..
Thanks to all of my dearest pals friends besties from all over the country and S'pore!
Thanks for the wonderful presents and wishes!
Dolphin necklace! i love dolphins!

Anna Sui's vintage purse! Aww.. absolutely fabulous!

Lucky 4-leaves clover necklace! just exactly what i needed LOL!

ps notice the redness on my chest? that's my chest if you dont know..

No worries i had some of my usual mild rashes.. my skin's that sensitive.. SIGH!

Rubber sandals from Crossovers! This is what i needed too! too many heels not enough flats!LOL

Thanks to my beloved ones again!!

To my wonderful pals...

Thanks Vasanthi, Bei Shi, Si Ying, Li Chern, Nazmi, Julian, Qianru, Anna, Yu Qin, Kak Izza and..

Umm cant remember at the moment... tell me if i missed any of you out and really sorry about it!

A problem without a solution isn't a problem at all..
Saturday, August 02, 2008

Sometimes..
it is really frustrating to talk to some people..
especially when they are talking about issues that are of not our concern at all..
But
there are too times where
its really nice to be able to talk to someone
not just any someone..
but one who you can really relate to..
One
Who words stuffs that are capable of leaving you to think about
Over and over again..
Today
someone said something that left me thinking hard..
To me
they were words that stood pricier than so many other words
simple. practical. meaningful all the same..

When you are faced with a problem,
there will surely be a solution..
A problem without a solution isn't a problem at all..
it is a reality.
And you win
when you learn to embrace your reality.

These words touched my heart
and i hope it touched yours too...
Alexia PS:
Of course
most of the problems in our lives are never without a solution..
Before you can use the italiced message..
Face your problems with a "half- full glass" mindset first..
the reality only comes after it..
:)
